About
I work as a researcher and research and innovation manager (technology, innovation, social media, suicide and self-harm, dementia, community well-being and autism)
That said, I tend not try to define myself by just one thing… At a past conference presentation I set this out:
I am an NHS manager, I am researcher and innovator, a father, a carer, an NHS patient, a runner, NOT a suit wearer and so on. BUT these are only a few of things that define who and what I am. I guess what I am saying is try not to define yourself by one thing.
What I am is a mashup of things I do, things I think, things I say and so on. Each aspect of my life interacts with other bits. I can’t not have the view of a father when I look at child online safety and ‘grooming’ just as I can’t not have the view of a reflective researcher when I look at the same data.
the God bit
I am deeply committed to following God, in the way of Jesus, I am exploring the meaning of church, faith and culture in my life. As well as searching for ways of being practical in my belief of and in Jesus. I would probably describe myself as Heretic… but lets be clear about this, this is because I realise my “tradition” starts with me and that might not conform to what has gone before me… as I seek to understand and hold in tension the various wisdoms of the past and God’s future vision for this world, I have a strong desire to have integrity, to be transparent and to be authentic to what I feel God is saying at this time while being aware of my own ignorance and failings.
Welcome to my corner of the blogosphere.
